Hi all,

I am estimating half-sib family mean heritability using an individual tree/animal model.
Thus I want to use additive variance twice in the equation for calculating family mean phenotypic variance, such as below

F PhenoHF 2*0.25 + 3*0.05 + 2*0.038 + 4*0.021 # equation 6 for family mean phenotypic variance

the same as additive*0.25+ SCA*0.05+additive*0.05*0.75+Residual*0.021

but ASReml always ignores the first additive variance term in equation 6.

I was thinking about whether we definitely need to merge two terms together? Or it is a bug?

Cheers
Zhiqiang

Dear Zhiqiang,

You are correct that ASReml only handles a very simple structure.
While it looks like there might be a full algebra implemented, in fact there is just the setting of
a simple list of components each with one coefficient. so the second reference to additive will overwrite the first
and additive**0.05*0.75 is unlikely to calculate additive*0.0375
